The event was jointly hosted by the Academic Affairs Office and the School of Foreign Languages and also featured the “Red May” Cultural Performance of the School’s “One-Stop” Student Community. Liu Xin, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, attended the event. Also present were Liu Ruguo, Director of the Admissions and Career Development Office; Fu Qi, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office; Zhai Jianbo, Deputy Director of the Discipline Construction Office and the Graduate Department; along with all faculty and students of the School of Foreign Languages.
Hu Chongzhi, Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, delivered a speech for the event. She emphasized that language serves as a bridge for mutual learning between civilizations and a bond connecting youth to the world. She expressed her hope that students would cultivate their professional expertise while keeping the nation in their hearts, using fluent foreign languages to convey China’s voice and tell China’s stories from a youthful perspective, thereby demonstrating the responsibility and charisma of the new generation of youth in cross-cultural exchange.
The final featured contestants competing in two categories: the English Major Group and the Non-English Major Group. Centered on the themes “China’s Voice in the Chorus of Civilizations” and “China: A Chapter in the World’s Story” respectively, 10 English major contestants and 12 non-English major contestants combined personal experiences with observations of the times. From perspectives such as development achievements, cultural charm, and youth responsibility, they vividly narrated Chinese stories and conveyed cultural confidence, demonstrating the students’ solid linguistic foundation, profound cultural literacy, and broad international vision.
During the intermission, song and dance performances created a lively atmosphere, winning waves of applause and cheers from the audience. The foreign teacher, Hannah, provided professional commentary, precisely highlighting the contestants’ strengths and offering targeted suggestions for improvement. Dean Liu Hui spoke highly of the wonderful performance of all contestants, encouraging them to continuously solidify their language foundation, broaden their international horizons, and strive to become youth envoys who spread Chinese culture and promote exchanges between civilizations.
Following a comprehensive evaluation by the judges, Ming Chenyao from the English Major Group and Ouyang Shihan from the Non-English Major Group were awarded the First Prize. Liu Xin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, presented them with honorary certificates and trophies.
